The Knoll Relax Barcelona Relax is the result of Knoll Studio study on their historical archive. Following this they released this new Barcelona "Comfort" or "Relax" Chair which is much more akin to the original Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe design, which stood for the synthesis of old and new: blending the comfort of home with the thrill of innovation. The frame is made from chromed steel which has been hand ground and hand buffed to a mirror finish. In a selection off leather choices the leather upholstery elements are attached with the aid of aluminium rivets and this is made from 40 individual panels which have been cut and hand welted and hand tufted with leather and buttons from a single cowhide. The cushions are made from premium quality fire retardant, high resilient urethane foam with down like Dacron polyester fibrefill, giving it a softer 'sit' than the original, hence the name 'relax'. This makes it more suitable for home use. It comes in a range of leather choices as well as a Special Edition Venetzia Leather. Naturally Utility only sells the original, produced by Knoll Studio, and to reinforce this the signature of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe is stamped into the base of the chair with each chair having an individual production number of identification and authenticity.
