Description
The;Knoll Barcelona Chair was designed by Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe in 1929 for the German Pavilion at the Exposicion Internacional de Barcelona, though was actually used as a throne for King Alfonso XIII at the exhibition's opening ceremonies. Whilst true to the original for the relaxed, more popular version see the Knoll Barcelona Chair - Relaxed version. The interior of the pavilion was quintessentially of the International Style which Mies van der Rohe's name is synonymous with. The frame of the Barcelona Chair is made from chromed steel which has been hand ground and hand buffed to a mirror finish. The upholstery element is attached with the aid of aluminium rivets and this is made from 40 individual panels which have been cut and hand welted and hand tufted with leather and buttons from a single cowhide. The cushions are made from premium quality fire retardant, high resilient urethane foam with down like dacron polyester fibrefill Produced by Knoll Studio this original chair had the signature of designer Ludwig Mies van der Rohe stamped into the base of the chair with each chair having an individual production number of identification and authenticity. Available here in Velluto Pelle Spinneybeck leather the Barcelona Chair also comes in various leather colours. An ottoman is also available to complement the Barcelona Chair.
