The tragedy of the Titanic is known to all, young and old. The elegant steamship was to be used by the distinguished transatlantic White Star Line. However on her maiden voyage to New York on 14th April 1912 at about 23.40 hours (ship's time) the Titanic collided with an iceberg. The ship struck the iceberg on the starboard side and sank two hours and forty minutes later in the icy waters of the Atlantic.
