Description
The Knoll Barcelona Day Bed, like the Barcelona Chair, was designed by Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe in 1929 for the German Pavilion at the Exposicion Internacional de Barcelona. The interior of the pavilion was quintessentially of the International Style which Mies van der Rohe's name is synonymous with. The platform of the day bed has a hardwood frame made from African Ramin which has a protective clear lacquer finish and 11 thick saddle leather straps over rubber wadding. The legs are polished tubular steel and the upholstery element made from 72 individual panels which have been cut and hand welted and hand tufted with velluto pelle leather and buttons from a single cowhide. The cushions are made from premium quality fire retardant, high resilient urethane foam with down like dacron polyester fibrefill. Additionally there is a bolster in matching leather which is fastened to the platform with lock straps. Naturally Utility only sells the original, produced by Knoll, and to reinforce this the signature of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe is stamped into the base of the chair with each chair having an individual production number of identification and authenticity.
